Background

We are now entering the final chapters of Daniel. As chapter 10 opens, Daniel is approximately 84–85 years old, in the year 536 BC. The Jews are no longer being held in Babylon. Many Jews at this time were making their way back to Jerusalem with the intent of rebuilding what would become known as the Second Temple. We aren’t told why Daniel remained in Babylon, but perhaps his age was too advanced to make the journey. What Daniel learns in this chapter will also be expanded on in next week’s lesson.

Memory Verse

“Then he said to me, ‘Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words.’” (Daniel 10:12, ESV)
