Background

In the first part of chapter 9, Daniel reveals his heart through prayer—his heart for God, his heart for his people, and his heart for Israel. Daniel’s prayer gives us not only a remarkable example of how to pray, but also great insight into Daniel himself.

In the last seven verses, God swiftly answers Daniel’s prayer through His angel, Gabriel. He reveals an extremely specific and comprehensive plan of what is to come for Israel. This had to be both encouraging and overwhelming to Daniel. God chose him alone to receive this prophecy that outlined the entire future for his people.

Memory Verse

“O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and take action! For Your own sake, O my God, do not delay, because Your city and Your people are called by Your name.’” (Daniel 9:19, NASB)
