Lord:
Thank You for this study. I am humbled by all the many things You have taught me this year through Luke. Help me to reflect on the resurrection and ascension in new ways as I study this final chapter of this Gospel this week. Keep me encouraged knowing Jesus hasn’t just ascended, but He is coming back. I long to be with You in Heaven forever.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Memory Verse
“He said to them, ‘Why are you frightened, and why are doubts arising in your hearts? See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, because a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you plainly see that I have.’”
Luke 24:38–39, NASB
Background
Although Jesus had said He would die and rise again, nobody fully understood what that meant. The payment for sin was now paid in full, but the story was not over. In fact, the best part of the story was about to begin. Jesus would conquer death and appear to many, showing He was, indeed, the Messiah. The Suffering Servant will next appear as the Conquering King.
