Father:

We bow down in Your presence to humbly ask that we learn to put You first, others second, and ourselves last as we study and meditate on this week’s lessons in love, humility, hospitality, and forgiveness. Give us hearts of service and help us to model the character of Jesus to the world around us.

In the holy name of Jesus Christ we offer our prayer, Amen

Memory Verse

“And he said to him, ‘Son, you have always been with me, and all that is mine is yours. But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has begun to live, and was lost and has been found.’”
Luke 15:31–32, NASB

Background

Still making His way to Jerusalem, Jesus uses every opportunity to teach both the crowds coming to hear Him and the religious leaders coming to condemn Him. Using parables, He contrasts the selfish, arrogant, attention-seeking ways of those in privileged positions of power with the way He interacts with His people, illustrating God’s love for all people—the humble, the downcast, the hopeless, and the lost. He emphasizes the importance God places on seeking them, finding them, and saving them.
