Background:
Armageddon will be one of the major events in human history. Armageddon will not be one battle. The blood bath will actually be a series of battles, which we should understand as a war or campaign. It will not be the last battle. Scripture reveals that the final revolt will be from satan (Revelation 20:7-11). The defeated foe will make a last stand on earth one thousand years after Armageddon.

And the demonic spirits gathered all the rulers and their armies to a place with the Hebrew name Armageddon. (Revelation 16:16, NLT)
