Have you ever gotten up in the middle of the night to use the restroom or get a drink only to run into something that you couldn’t see? Or even worse, you step on that one lego that didn’t get picked up? There is danger in darkness.

Danger lies in not being able to see where we are going, but it lies deeper than just mortal eye sight. Our mortal eyes are far too weak to be able to accurately perceive those obstacles that are right in front of us in the spiritual realm. There have been so many times that I have unblinkingly walked right into something spiritual that I just couldn’t see but that ended up hurting a lot worse than a few stubbed toes. That is why the psalmist says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Ps 119:105).

The Word of God is more than just a help and a comfort for those things that we can see. It is a pivotal and necessary protection against those things that our eyes are too weak to even perceive.
