Lord:
Use this lesson to help me become more discerning of what is of You and what is not. Deception is everywhere—even among believers. Give me an understanding and knowledge of Your Word so that I can easily recognize false teachings, and help me to lovingly help others to recognize false teachings, too.
In the name of Christ I pray, Amen.

Background
All of 1 John is written as a general letter containing broad reminders of the faith that could apply to all believers in Christ. Speaking truths in love resonated with believers then just as it does now. Although John does not identify specific false teachings in his warning to the believers, the principle remains the same: Measure all you hear and see against the truth of God’s Word alone.
