1 Timothy 5–6
Background:
As Paul wraps up this epistle to Timothy, we see many ways he wants to love and protect the faith and actions of not just Timothy but all believers. The Gnostic teaching was being spread prevalently by unbelievers as well as by some Jews who claimed to be believers. Paul reminds believers of the truth while advising them to be aware of the deceptions that could infiltrate their churches and beliefs.
Memory Verse:
“Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called
you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.” (1 Timothy 6:12, NLT)
Reflection:
In our lesson last week, Paul reminded us that physical exercise does not have an eternal benefit, but “godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come” (1 Timothy 4:8, NKJV). Has knowing this changed your focus and the way you spend your time?
