Use this year to help me know You through this study of Luke. Point out truth about Jesus. May I always strive to know Jesus as You define Him in the Bible. Develop in me discernment as this year goes forward. Increase my heart knowledge and show me how You want me to put into practice what I learn.
In Jesus’ matchless name I pray, Amen.
“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”
Luke 1:31–33, NASB
God has been silent for more than 400 years. The Jewish people worship God while under the rule of Herod and the tyranny of Rome. But now the silence is broken.
In this chapter we will read of angelic announcements; the introduction of John, the New Testament prophet; and the active working of the Holy Spirit (vv. 1:15, 17, 35, 41, 67, 80) in several of God’s servants. We will hear the announcement of the miraculous divine birth foretold so many years ago. This meticulous accounting will open an era and bridge the gap between the foretold and the now revealed.
