Memory Verse:

“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.” (2 Corinthians 1:3–5, NLT)

Background:

To be overwhelmed implies that you are “in over your head” or “out over your skis.” Your personal abilities and strengths are exceeded by the needs of your circumstances. Our culture says this is when we need more grit. We just need to “pull ourselves up by our bootstraps.” After all, “God helps those who help themselves.” Wait, is that what God says? What does the Bible actually say about being overwhelmed? About being comforted? About our “Father of compassion, and the Godof all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles” (2 Corinthians 1:3–5, NIV).

Reflection:

How have you seen God’s promises of peace in your life this week?
