Background:
In Revelation 21 and 22, the description of the New Jerusalem emphasizes God’s glory, which is the source of light for the city. There are many Jewish references, familiar to ancient Israelites. The features of the city include 12 gates, named after the 12 tribes of Israel and the 12 foundations that include the names of Christ’s apostles. There is a river flowing with the water of life, and the tree of life bears its fruit each month.
Memory Verse:
But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. (2 Peter 3:13, NIV)
