Dear Father in Heaven:

Thank You for the example we have in Christ—of how to face temptation and not succumb, of continually speaking truth in the face of opposition, of dealing with challenging people and situations with grace. I pray that I would always pause to reflect on Jesus’ teaching and guidance before I act. Father, help me to rely only on You and Your Word and not my own perceived wisdom or power. There is nothing in this world that I need more than You.

In Your precious Son Jesus’ name, Amen.

Memory Verse

“I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.”

Luke 5:32, NLT

Background

In Luke 4:18–19 (NASB 95), Jesus applies the words of the prophet Isaiah to Himself by saying, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”

These two verses give us a preview of Jesus’ entire mission on earth. The Lord’s favor and Spirit are upon Him as He begins His public ministry.
