Heavenly Father:
Help me to walk in the truth of Your Word today and every day. I pray that You would help me to overcome any temptation or struggle that may come my way. Give me the strength to resist the enemy and to stand firm in my faith.
Amen.
Memory Verse
Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
2 John 8–9, NIV
Background
John addresses the itinerant teachers in his churches who were pulling members away from Jesus, who is the Truth. He wrote it to warn believers against inadvertently supporting false teachers. The number of itinerant evangelists and teachers had grown throughout the first century; mixed in with the legitimate missionaries were others who were promoting heretical ideas about Christ and the Gospel. Little has changed in two thousand years. Advocates of unorthodox beliefs still exist and still attempt to confuse and deceive the people of God. This letter should serve as a wake-up call to believers to be alert, be careful, and be solidly grounded in the faith.
