Heavenly Father:

Teach me what it really means to follow Jesus. Use the words of Jesus to shine a light into my heart this week as I study this lesson. Help me to love others with a Christ-like love that comes from You alone. Fill me with hope, peace, and positivity as I receive Your grace and extend it to others.

This I ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Memory Verse

“Do to others as you would like them to do to you.”

Luke 6:31, NLT

Background

Luke continues his description of Christ’s ministry in Galilee. Just when the Pharisees were accusing Jesus of being a law breaker because He showed a new kind of compassion to the sick and to sinners, Jesus calls the 12 men who were first identified as disciples and then later apostles. He gives them a standard of behavior so that they would understand the new direction that their lives were going to take now that they were His appointed apostles. By following His instructions, these men would reflect the transforming power of God with their words and deeds as they represented Jesus to the world.
