Joel 1:1-3:21
Background:
In Joel, Jesus is portrayed as the Restorer. The overall lesson of Joel’s prophecy is this: Repent, for “the day of the Lord” is coming. By the time most of the minor prophets were writing, God’s promise to David of an everlasting kingdom was at least 300 years old. Joel’s ministry was to Judah. Each of God’s prophets foresaw great destruction and sorrow for God’s chosen people and for nations that would not humble themselves before God. However, they had faith in God to fulfill His promise of a deliverer. Joel presents four divine attributes of God: divine abandonment, divine aggression, divine compassion, and divine judgment.

“The Lord says, ‘I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts. It was I who sent this great destroying army against you.’” (Joel 2:25, NLT)
