Heavenly Father:
We thank You for Your gift of eternal life. Help us to be ever mindful of the cost of this gift and to give our lives over to You in love and obedience. May we abide in the truth of Your Word and cast out our impurity and hopelessness in exchange for joy, righteousness, and peace. May we remember who we are and to whom we belong.

Background
The beloved disciple John continues writing to the faithful with unambiguous clarity concerning the basics of Jesus’ teaching. He minces no words in reminding believers of the very real and ongoing spiritual war waged against God and His children in this sinful world as he teaches us of our responsibility to practice righteous obedience and to stand up for the authentic truth of God’s Word. He emphasizes purity, righteousness, and love among the children of God.
