Heavenly Father:

Thank You for giving me a perfect example of right living in Your Son, Jesus Christ. Please help me to live my life as He did, to love as He does, to extend grace as He does, and to be a bright light to others as He is. May I always show how completely I love Jesus through my actions and my words.

Background

John wants his believing readers to know that righteous living and staying in fellowship with Christ is the way to avoid the darkness of sin. His words are those of loving instruction and encouragement to remain faithful to what they had been taught. We still must take John’s words to heart today. As long as Jesus is our example of living and loving, we will be a powerful witness to others and bring glory to our Heavenly Father.
